Governor of Bayelsa state, Duoye Diri has questioned the decision of the President Muhammadu Buhari government to arrest leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, while giving a pass to renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, despite his alleged link to bandits. Diri stated this on Tuesday, when he featured on a Channels TV programme, where he noted that Gumi had become somebody no one could touch, adding that it was very unfair. The governor said; “Two things I have to say; first, they should give him (Nnamdi Kanu) a fair hearing so that the trial will not be done in a way that everyone (especially the Igbo) will see it as oppression. “Second, as we talk about the IPOB, what about the boys (bandits and herdsmen) organising killings in the North and in the whole country? What of Sheik Gumi? He has become somebody no one can touch. The company made this warning as a clone app named GB WhatsApp is gaining a rapid audience, The Mirror reported on Monday. The federal government made N650 billion from taxpayers in June, says the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). The FIRS spokesman Abdullahi Ahmad disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday. Mr Ahmad noted that the fund was the highest revenue realised in a single month since the COVID-19 pandemic started and the assumption of office of the current management. He quoted the FIRS chairman Muhammad Nami saying, “This feat was achieved as a result of the efficiency and effectiveness of the TaxProMax Solution. Notwithstanding the challenges and resistance faced in the early stages of its adoption, and the downturn orchestrated by slow economic recovery.” Mr Nami recalled that as part of its efforts at modernising tax administration in the country, the FIRS recently introduced the Tax Administration Solution (TaxProMax) to ease tax compliance. President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime has appealed to the U.S., UK and other developed countries to pay the $100 billion they promised to support developing countries to attain the ‘Nationally Determined Contributions’ (NDC) target. Specifically, the regime’s environment minister Mohammad Abubakar sought the support of the UN to persuade developed countries to redeem the NDC $100 billion pledge. Mr Abubakar stated this on Tuesday when the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. The NDC is at the heart of the Paris Agreement on climate. NDC embodies efforts by each country to reduce national emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. According to Abubakar, Nigeria’s NDC was projected based on a five per cent annual gross domestic product (GDP) increase.  Governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, has reiterated his comment alleging that President Muhammadu Buhari is the one creating insecurity in Nigeria.
